I was having this great Netflix affair with the short lived Roswell television series about teen alien drama and and I just fell in love with Majandra Delfino, who played Maria on the show. She really grabbed my attention late in the series when in one episode she sang a beautifully delivered, soulful love song. I was so inspired by the beauty of it – I had to know more about her.

Majandra Delfino

Born February 20, 1981 in Caracas, Venezuela

Is married to actor Devon Gummersall (think My So Called Life, Jordan Catalano: “Are you Brain?”)

Has her own indie label and has released her second album “Tarte.” After hearing a sample from the record on her MySpace page (The Places You’ll Go) I couldn’t download it fast enough from iTunes.

All her songs are performed by her (Piano, Guitar, Cello, Bass)

Has the cutest website with the cutest little story about her life. I just love her writing.

Discography

The Sicks

TARTE

All are available through iTunes

Majandra is definitely on my Beauties to watch list and I hope she gets all the recognition she deserves.

What differentiates the Classic Smokey Eye from other smokey eye looks is the use of grays in your eyeshadow palette.

Tools

Brushes
Chisel double shader – for lid
Precision squirrel contour brush and a crease brush – for contour
Camouflage angled detail brush – to fill in the brows

Eyeshadows
Medium gray – for lid
Light neutral color – for brow bone
Deep smokey gray(s) – for contour
A medium brown – to fill in your brows

Black eyeliner – gel or pencil

Black mascara – waterproof

Loose powder – to set the eye makeup
or
A duel foundation power compact and a foundation brush – to set the eye makeup

Application
Use the chisel double shader brush to apply the medium gray to the lid. Then apply the neutral color to the brow bone. Next apply the eyeliner beginning at the inner corner of the eye and working your way out to the edge of the eye. Thicken the eyeliner at the outer edge for a more dramatic effect.

Now apply the darkest color to the contour area using your contour brush (also can be called the precision contour brush, can also use a crease brush). Rolling the brush into the contour area, blending the color out and up. Use 1 or 2 of your dark eyeshadows here and blend them in this area. I apply the color right over the eyeliner to add to the smokey look. If you want a more crisp and sharp black then don’t apply the dark eyeshadow over the eyeliner.

Now take more of your medium color and go back over the lid blending it in. Just to make sure this color didn’t get lost when you applied your dark eyeshadow. Then fill in the brows with your brown color and camouflage angel detail brush.

Apply your mascara beginning on the bottom. Sometimes we forget to start on the bottom and start on the top, then when you go to the bottom and look up you get mascara all over your perfect eyeshadow! So always start on the bottom and finish on the top lashes.

Almost done – clean up any stray eyeshadow etc. with a q-tip. Set the look with a little loose powder and you’re done!

I love love love the way my eyes look in mascara. Black and dramatic, it really finishes off my eyeshadow look. However there are a plethora of reasons I don’t wear it on the daily: I’m too rushed in the morning, I get lazy about removing it at night, and the biggest reason is because I found a nice little shortcut: I get my eyelashes tinted.

Easy As…Eyelash Tint & Eyelash Curler

The cost will vary depending on where you go, but I get mine done from Caelie for $25. I go about 6 weeks in between lash tints. She uses black and it goes on the lashes for about 5 minutes. I found that if I try to talk to her while it’s on, then my subtle facial movements make the tint get into my eyes and there’s a mild stinging. So I try not to talk and I stay really still.

My eyelashes look great when it’s done and then all I do each day is curl them with my eyelash curler and it looks like I’m wearing mascara. I do still wear mascara on occasion for the extra drama it provides, but it’s usually on a day when I know I will commit to removing it that night before I go to bed. I find the lash tint to be a nice way to keep my makeup routine simple.

More Info on Eyelash Tinting

Eyelash tinting lasts anywhere from 6-8 weeks

The tint dyes the eyelashes and then starts to fade once your lashes begin to fall out and new ones grow in. Because the new lashes that grow in are fair in color it makes the tint appear to fade.

We have 3 different cycles of hair growth and they are 3-12 weeks apart. So basically every 12 weeks you have brand new eyelashes!

Most people choose Black or Deep Black (though some prefer a dark brown)

Eyelash Tinting is the Best!

Tinting your eyelashes are great for anyone who has fair lashes: blond, gray or light brown lashes.

When you get up in the morning your eyes are already defined and you don’t have to run for the tube of mascara!

It’s also wonderful when you are on vacation so you don’t have to worry about your mascara running when you swim.

I went to see Caelie today for a brow wax and she asked me if I was using the mud mask and scrub she had given me. Funny because I hadn’t been using them, and having just moved, they are tucked away in a box that is buried in a room full of boxes!

Well, the ideas she gave me reignited my excitement to use the products and go dig them up. She said that since I cleanse my face at night before bed that when I wake up my face is still clean. Which means that the mask can go on in the morning without having to cleanse first. So when you wake up you can put the mask on first thing, before you make your bed, get your tea, make your lunch, etc. Just make sure to leave it on for 5-10 minutes. Then when you’re ready to shower, use your scrub to remove the mask. You can do this once a week.

Once you’re out of the shower make sure you follow your scrub with a toner (to balance ph and to hydrate) and a gel or oil free light weight moisturizer, and an oil free or matte sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher.

I am using a mask and scrub by Only YourX and am happy with them. They definitely leave my skin feeling exfoliated and smooth. So grab yours and do your skin a favor – use them!

Hey Ladies! I wanted to gather these 5 Easy Makeup Ideas and post here for you. They are ideas to create a full look or can be used individually.

Preparing Your Skin
Prepare your skin for foundation and makeup by gently cleansing your face. You want to wash away all traces of mascara and left over eye makeup. Then scrub (exfoliate) to get rid of dead skin cells so your foundation goes on evenly. Use a gel or oil-free moisturizer to plump up and hydrate your skin cells, so that the foundation does not ‘drag’ when you apply it. I recommend applying a sunscreen that is matte or oil-free and has a SPF of 15-30. The sunscreen will act as a primer helping your foundation glide on during the application process. If you are told to use a primer, make sure it does not have a lot of silicon in it. The silicon is used to ensure that the foundation is applied smoothly; however, silicon moves around on the face and your foundation and/or eye makeup will not last.

Foundation
Make sure the foundation you are using matches your skin. Blend in the your foundation at your jaw line and neck, so there are no lines or creases. Pay attention to areas where your foundation may be visible and blend it in well, especially around the hairline, jaw line, nose, lips, and eyes. Then conceal with one of the following options: another layer of foundation (once your foundation dries you can apply another layer; usually this is needed under the eyes, nose, cheeks and chin), a concealer, or a concealer powder. When you set your foundation with a loose powder, use a powder color that matches your foundation or a transparent powder (if it is transparent, it will become the color of your foundation). No sense in trying to match your foundation to your skin then inadvertently changing the color with the wrong shade of powder.

Eyebrows
Your eyebrows frame your face, which is why it is critical that you make sure they are the right shape for your face. It is also important to keep them neatly groomed with regular maintenance. Fill in your eyebrows with eye shadow base and an eye shadow. You can also use an eyebrow pencil (try to find one that is water resistant for more staying power). Use a color that is one to two shades lighter than your actual brow hairs. After you fill in your eyebrows, set your brows with a loose powder or a powder compact.

Mascara
Always curl your lashes before applying mascara. If you curl your lashes after you apply your mascara, your lashes may stick to the lash curler or become clumpy. Always wear your favorite tried and true waterproof mascara. Apply one coat, let it dry, then apply a second coat. Brush up and down making sure you apply the mascara to the top of the eyelashes and the bottom.

Customize Your False Eyelashes
There are a lot of choices out there for false eyelashes. Decide your look based on the event and then you can customize your false eyelashes by: cutting strips to the desired length to fit your eye properly. You can also use individual eyelashes in small, medium, or long. Place individual false lashes of varying sizes and amounts to your eyelashes to create your desired look. Then apply mascara, allow time to dry, then a second coat.

I have exactly one lip tool left: a lonely gloss shoved between pens and highlighters on my desk under my monitor. If I am reading the smudged print off the bottom of the tube correctly, it is called “Twisted.” Twisted indeed, the sad state of my lip care collection. A girl’s gotta have at least 5 lip tools:

1. An everyday lip liner that will go with all (or most hopefully) your colors
2. A light frosty lipstick color (for subtlety)
3. A darker lipstick color (to make a splash)
4. A classic red lipstick (to make a BIG splash)
5 & 6. A few glosses, light and dark to go over the lipstick or just to throw on in a quick mid-day touch up.

So it’s time for an inventory replenish: Caelie help!

Changing the world one eyebrow at a time…Eyebrow Design, Theory & Tweezing tutorial. Don’t mess up your eyebrows! Watch this video and learn where to tweeze and where not to tweeze.

Eyebrows are the frame of your face, they create your look and finish it off simultaneously. Don’t overlook this important area, whether you are over-tweezers, or someone who doesn’t do anything to your eyebrows, this video can help you.

Tools
Good Pair of Tweezers (sharp)
Toner & Cotton Round

Design & Theory
Don’t over-tweeze in-between your eyes, which will create brows that are too far apart and make you look surprised.
There are two parallel lines that run up from the beginning of the brow (from inside of the eye) to the arch, then taper off towards the outside of the eye. At the outer edge of the eyebrow you want length to have length, so don’t over-tweeze here.

Tweezing
You want a really good pair of tweezers. Clean your eyebrow area with the toner and cotton round. Pull one hair at a time from the base of the hair. Pull slowly and in the direction of the hair so that the hair does not break off.

Why use eyeshadow base?
Eyeshadow base is the must have absolute basic necessity of eye makeup. If you are not wearing eyeshadow base then there’s no point in even wearing eyeshadow! If you want your eye makeup to stand out, show up and last all day, then use eyeshadow base to give it that staying power. This video shows you the tools and techniques of eyeshadow base application.

Tools
Chisel angle brow brush or a small camouflage brush
Eyeshadow base

Tips
If you have too much eyeshadow base, it will crease.
If you don’t apply enough eyeshadow base, the eye shadow will not adhere.

You can apply eyeshadow base with a brush or your finder. If you are a makeup artist it is best to apply with a brush. When applying the eyeshadow base on yourself you can use your finger.

Application

Use a spatula or small wooden stick to scoop a very small amount of eyeshadow base out of the container, onto the back of your hand, this keeps it sanitary.

Then take your makeup brush and apply a line from the inside corner of the eye, up to the beginning of the eyebrow. Then apply a line of base from the outside of the lower lash line up to the outer corner of the eyebrow.

Apply a small amount of eyeshadow base on the eyelid. Use your brush to blend the base from the lash line up to the eyebrow covering the entire eye area.

You can use your finger to tap it out and smooth the eyeshadow base so that you have a thin, even layer.
